With great sadness, we announce the passing of Assistant Basketball Commissioner Travas Lendor. He passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Travas’s love for basketball began in his backyard on Nereid Ave. in the Bronx. His passion for the sport continued through his time at Northeastern Academy on the varsity team and at Washington Adventist University, formerly Columbia Union College.
Starting in the 1990s, Travas was a staple for the Sharon Seventh-day Adventist basketball team. His sound fundamental knowledge and athletic prowess eventually led him to coach the team. It is a testament to Travas’ technical skills and solid foundation in basketball that other accomplished players who have played in “And One” tournaments and at the Division-I level credit him with teaching them the game and wishing they were as good as he was. He taught many young players how to play the game.
In the Fall of 2022/2023, Travas started his tenure as the New York Metro Basketball League’s assistant commissioner. During his time in this position, he was instrumental in planning, organizing, and scheduling games. He oversaw both the Junior and Senior Leagues, offering guidance and support. His knowledge and insight contributed significantly to redesigning and upgrading the League’s website.
He created and designed all the League’s logos, banners, and flyers. He recommended that NCBL start recording and live-streaming games because it would definitely boost engagement and help grow the audience on the YouTube page. Thus, he became the point person in ensuring that the games were recorded and live-streamed.
With heavy hearts, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and heartfelt gratitude for the time spent with Commissioner Travas Lendor. Friend, Coach, and Assistant Commissioner, you’ll be greatly missed.
